× AN ATLAS OF MACHINE BOUNDARIES
A landscape of closeness, desire, and the placesa model won’t go.

The Reference field is an art-directed, synthetic 3D point cloud inspired by the refusal-core sticker. Its contours and central core are visual metaphors; its responses are assigned demo labels.
The 3D UMAP sample is an actual three-dimensional UMAP reduction of 3,900 synthetic 48-dimensional vectors. Its prompts and responses are also illustrative. No language model was queried for either sample.
Load points accepts JSON arrays, objects containing a points array, or JSONL, including Recording Room’s points.jsonl. Each point needs numeric x, y, and z. Optional prompt, topic, outcome, conversation, and previous-point fields appear when supplied. Imported coordinates are centered and uniformly scaled; they are never warped into the reference shape. Your file stays in this browser.

Your recordings · donut uses a fixed reference fitted from answered and refused turns. New exports reuse its direction, angular basis and vertical scale, so existing states stay in place. Radius smoothly compresses the reference score into the chosen sphere-and-donut geometry; it is not a probability. Angle describes remaining internal-state variation, not a validated topic label. Changing response labels updates markers without moving points. Redirection alone does not define the core. Older exports without a reference badge retain their original exploratory coordinates.
Follow a conversation selects a coloured path. Play, pause, step or scrub through its turns; future turns stay faint until reached. Arrows join recorded checkpoints directly. They do not show measured motion between turns. The sphere and field texture are illustrative; approaching the sphere does not establish a causal refusal mechanism.
Your recordings · UMAP are your conversations from the cloud GPU recording room. Each point is one turn: Gemma 3 12B’s internal state at the final token before it replied, placed by a separate 3D UMAP for each recorded layer. Switch layers to see how the arrangement changes with depth; dashed lines follow each conversation in order. With few turns, the layout is a sketch. The hosted map updates automatically after completed conversations.
UMAP axes have no intrinsic meaning. Nearby points in the projection are not proof of a shared cause of refusal. Neighbors here are measured in the displayed 3D coordinates.
